Scoring 2.2.2.2-4.2.3.1-timp.perc-harp-strings

In February 1958, pianist-conductor-somposer Walter Hendl, between positions with orchestras in Dallas and Chicago, approached Floyd’s publishers about creating an orchestral suite from Susannah. Hendl extracted a nineteen-minute selection of big moments: the opening square dance and choral sequences, Blitch’s entrance, Susannah’s two arias, Blitch’s aria of repentance, excerpts from the revival scene, and the closing moments.
