Competitions
As a celebration of Floyd’s remarkable contributions to the world of music, we aim to showcase the beauty and complexity of his compositions through a platform that nurtures and promotes talent. We will partner with existing competitions nationwide, inviting them to include Floyd's works as suggested repertoire for their competitors.
Recital and Lecture Tours
Numerous top artists are currently planning recital programs featuring the works for Carlisle Floyd for presentation during the 2026 season. Additionally, Floyd’s biographer Tom Holliday will present lectures on the life of the composer. Presenters will have the opportunity to book these artists for what is sure to be a sensational celebration of Floyd’s centennial.
Exhibit Tours
An ambitious initiative to preserve and digitize the extensive Floyd archives, which were bequeathed to the South Caroliniana Library at the University of South Carolina following the composer's passing. Recognizing the historical value and cultural significance of Floyd's works, this endeavor aims to ensure that his legacy remains accessible for generations to come. In addition to enhancing the museum's existing exhibit, plans are underway to curate traveling exhibits that will tour opera companies and universities across the country during the centennial year.
Education Guides
Educational guides are being created for each of Floyd's operas, providing valuable resources for producing companies and school districts. These guides will be available online and will include contextual information, historical timelines, essays, interviews, analysis, and classroom activities. They will also connect to other subjects and comply with Common Core objectives.
Docu-series
In this captivating limited series, viewers will be taken on a journey through the centennial celebrations of the renowned composer Carlisle Floyd and explore the themes of his life and works.
Webinar
Originally produced by Opera America and Lee Berger Media, the Crafting an Opera webinar was a five-episode series of interviews between Marc Scorca and Carlisle Floyd that explored the creative process behind each opera. The Carlisle Floyd Centennial proposes the adaptation of this work into an online course hosted by Jake Heggie. Heggie will guide participants through the intricate process of opera creation, drawing inspiration from Floyd's groundbreaking works and inviting other well-known creators to join him in teaching the next generation of artists.
